Understanding CENTAMAX Coupling Types – SB, SBE, SC, and SCE
CENTAMAX couplings are manufactured in several fitment types to suit different driveline configurations: SB, SBE, SC, and SCE. Each version was developed by CENTA Germany in cooperation with leading engine and equipment manufacturers to ensure the right mounting method, torsional stiffness, and long-term reliability.
At AWELASTIC.com, we supply all CENTAMAX coupling types as original OEM elements. If the coupling on your machine matches the photos provided on our website, you can place an order directly. If you are unsure, simply send us a photo, part code, or Shore hardness marking, and our team will verify the correct replacement.
The SB type is the standard flange-mounted version of the CENTAMAX coupling. It is widely used in diesel generators, marine auxiliaries, and industrial drives, providing TVA-calculated torsional flexibility and OEM-precise stiffness.
The SBE type is a variation of the SB design, specified in certain generator and industrial applications. It features a different mounting arrangement (threaded option available in some sizes). Marked SBE, these elements should be identified by both visual inspection and code markings.
The SC type is the most common solution for larger CENTAMAX elements. In this version, bolts pass directly through the plain holes of the elastomer element and tighten into the hub. The plain, unthreaded holes are a defining feature of the SC type.
This design provides a secure and robust mounting solution and is used extensively in large generator sets, marine propulsion drives, and heavy-duty industrial machinery.
The SCE type is designed for large and heavy-duty CENTAMAX sizes. Unlike SC, the SCE elements have threaded holes, allowing bolts to screw directly into the element.
- In some sizes (e.g., CENTAMAX 8000 SCE) both plain holes and threaded holes are present.
- In the very largest sizes (e.g., CENTAMAX 18000 SCE) all holes are threaded, as there is no space for both hole types.
This threaded fitment is essential for reliable torque transfer in the largest couplings, where high torque and compact geometry demand precise engineered solutions.
How to Identify Your Coupling
1. Check the markings – OEM CENTAMAX elements are stamped with size, type, Shore hardness, and production codes.
2. Compare the photos – If your coupling looks identical, you can order directly.
3. Still unsure? – Send us a photo or code — our team will confirm the exact OEM replacement.
